The Avalon uses a Miyota 9015 automatic movement. The bracelet also features quick-release spring bars for fast strap changes. This clasp offers on the fly micro-adjustment at the push of a button, and enables to wear to achieve the perfect fit with no fuss. The Avalon also marks the debut of the Nodus NodeX clasp on the bracelet. The 120-click unidirectional bezel features a glossy ceramic insert that's fully lumed for use in the dark, and the watch uses a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on its underside. With a screw down crown and case back, the steel case has an impressive 300m water resistance that will be plenty for anyone looking to take their watch swimming or diving.

The watch is on the factory H link bracelet sized for me 7.25 wrist but comes with all extra links and full kit including the box and watch roll. The 43.5mm cushion case is very reminiscent of Seiko's iconic dive watches, whilst still having an identity all its own. Up for sale is my used Nodus Avalon 1 in white with a matte black ceramic dial. Little extras along the way that add up.The Nodus Avalon is now in its second iteration, and it's better than ever. This also contributes to the overall strength of the brand–thoughtful designs, standard movement regulation, and US assembly in their LA workshop. It’s details like these that make you realize how much more you get for your money in a watch like the Avalon II Bronze. Where the Turtle is a single polished swoop, the Avalon is rendered in four separate planes–a broad, brushed swath on the bottom, followed by a slim polished chamfer along the midcase, and then another wider polished band expanding toward the lugs, terminating with the circularly brushed case top. A side-by-side comparison shows the Seiko to be an almost clumsy version of the crisper Avalon. It is not unlike the Seiko Turtle–another classic example of the cushion case–in its overall design, but the Avalon II is much more complex. You could imagine it cutting a wake through the sea. Looked at in profile from the perspective of the lugs, the watch appears very much like the hull of a flat-bottomed ship. The strength of the Avalon II Bronze, as with the other Avalon iterations that preceded it, has to be case construction. The crown is screw-down, slightly recessed, and signed. The review model featured here had already begun to patina before its arrival, which is the enchanting part of a bronze watch–its final colour will be a result not only of the metal, but of your lifestyle as it reacts with the environment. This is the first time Nodus have plied the bronze watch waters, and the result is sharp.

The smaller bezel diameter (41.5mm) also helps to visually shrink the watch. I decided that my wifes generous offer of spending 1000-1500 on a watch, as a present, was too much to spend. To begin, the profile is relatively slim for a diver at 12.75mm, and the cushion case construction with its sloped edges really sits well on wrist. However, if that sounds large, fear not, there is a little magic in the way this watch wears. It remains true to the original references in both shape and size, coming in at 43.5mm in diameter and 48mm lug to lug. The Noddus Avalon II Bronze of the brand will recognize the case.
